Malaga midfielder Francisco Portillo has extended his contract with the Costa del Sol club until June 2016.
The 23-year-old’s current deal at La Rosaleda was due to expire in 2015 and, following several weeks of talks, he is understood to have been assured by boss Bernd Schuster that his future lies with Los Blanquiazules.
Portillo played his first minutes of the 2013-14 campaign in the 2-2 away draw at Sevilla on Sunday when he came on after half-time for Pedro Morales, despite not featuring in the opening two La Liga games.
If followed speculation that he was not part of Schuster’s plans after being an essential part of former boss Manuel Pellegrini’s squad last term.
