Lopetegui excited by Under-21s

Julen Lopetegui has reflected on Spain’s new-look Under-21 squad set to begin their 2015 European Championship qualification campaign next month.

Lopetegui has today announced his first selection of talent to try and run for a third consecutive Under-21 title and it has seen the promotion of a number of players from the Under-20 side.

“This team is part of the normal working group, they are a generation that we know well and whose birth limit is 1992,” explained Lopetegui today.

“The goal is to qualify, to try and begin well and to prepare well because we face many games in three months.”

Isco and Koke are notable youngsters in the senior squad also announced today.

“It is good news for everyone. There are sufficient replacements.

“We are excited for the players we have selected, they have quality and now is the moment for them to pass into the professional world and take that final step.

“They are at a difficult age, many are playing in big clubs for how good they are, and their growth depends on them.”
