Baptistao: Focus on facing Rayo

Leo Baptistao has reflected on Atletico Madrid’s focus this weekend, facing former side Rayo Vallecano and competing with David Villa and Diego Costa.

The young Brazilian has been preparing this week for Sunday evening’s Week 2 clash against the team Atleti signed him from earlier this summer.

Whilst the game comes midway between Los Colchoneros’ two-legged Supercopa de Espana Final with Barcelona, the 20-year-old has affirmed that focus is where it should be, and none more so than for him.

“Now what is most important is the weekend’s game,” Baptistao told reporters today.

“We are thinking towards this and winning it, this is our next target. We must go step by step and we all want to play on Sunday against Rayo.

“Certainly, I would like to. I feel good and I have been working well. I do not know if I will start, I do not know anything yet.

“Have I provided any insight into facing them? The Coach is very familiar with the opponent. He has only spoken with the whole team.

“I am still in contact with many friends at Rayo: Galvez, Nacho… We have spoken about everything and also a little of the game, of course.

“I will seldom face Rayo, but I have really wanted to play against them and I will enjoy it.

“It shall be special. I hope that Atletico are ahead by the time the game is over.”

Baptistao faces competition for places this season from David Villa and Diego Costa, but is unfazed.

“I knew that there would be amazing competition for places here. I knew that before I got here. They are great players and I am learning a lot from them, I’m happy to be playing alongside them.

“Villa replacing Radamel Falcao? He has come to contribute. He has come to help the team and he is demonstrating so.”
