‘Valencia dressing room is humble’

Juan Bernat has made clear that the issue surrounding Jeremy Mathieu ‘is settled’ and that Valencia’s dressing room is ‘humble and will continue to be so’.

Yesterday saw Los Che's French international defender indicate to the media his unhappiness at apparently having not featured in first team plans under Miroslav Djukic during training this week.

On from the player apologising and the Coach speaking to the players about airing such issues in public, Mathieu has seemingly found himself back in first-team contention for this weekend.

If the defender does start against Espanyol in Week 2, the player he is likely to replace at left-back has made clear that Mathieu’s outburst is not the reason for the rotation.

“The dressing room has always been humble and will continue to be so,” Bernat considered to reporters today.

“If Mathieu does play then it will not be because of his statements. The Coach does not make decisions based on the statements of a player.

“If the Coach were to decide to make a change then it would be for the best of the team.

“It is a settled issue. You have to train every day without thinking about if you are going to play or not.

“You should work to be in the team and then to give everything in the game if you are.

“Do I prefer to play full-back or as a winger? It will be the Coach that decides the position. The thing I want is to play.”

The youngster then looked ahead to Los Che’s trip out to Catalonia this Saturday.

“We hope to be better than we were against Malaga at Mestalla and to get another three points, which is important.

“It is true that we were not up to our level. We must improve our fluency in attack, the other day it cost us to create chances.

“In defence we were good but in attack we needed to create more. We will try to get more of the ball and be more decisive against Espanyol.”
