‘Stopping Barca isn’t impossible’

Marcos Angeleri has acknowledged Malaga’s task in hosting Barcelona in Week 2, but says that it ‘isn’t impossible’ for his team to stop the champions.

Barca began the defence of their title in Week 1 with a resounding 7-0 win over Levante, whilst the Anchovies started with a 1-0 defeat at Valencia.

Looking ahead to Malaga’s opening home fixture of the season, Week 2’s hosting of the Catalans, one of the club’s summer arrivals has looked to ease Andalucian nerves.

“It is not impossible to stop them,” Angeleri reflected to reporters today.

“We have a very difficult start in the League against some tough opponents. Now we face the best in the League and one of the best there are.

“They have players that for a defender or a defence are very difficult to control, but it is not impossible.

“With good work from the whole team we can play a good game and we can defend well.

“During the week we are working defensively on trying to obstruct Barcelona. We are working well during training and hope to replicate this on the field.”

The 30-year-old debuted in the centre of defence for the Costa del Sol outfit last weekend at Mestalla, alongside fellow newcomer, Panamanian Roberto Chen.

“I was happy with my performance, I wanted to rise to the occasion. I tried to do everything that the Coach had asked of me.

“With Chen it felt good, we tried to do our best, to stay at the level of the game.”
