Angeleri relishing Valencia test

Malaga defender Marcos Angeleri claims he cannot wait for the La Liga season to begin against Valencia this Saturday.

The Argentine international, signed from Estudiantes over the summer, also believes a good performance at the Mestalla would constitute a great beginning to the new season for Bernd Schuster’s men.

“We welcome Valencia as opponents because it is enough motivation for us to get a good result that helps us get off to a good start, and I can’t wait,” Angeleri told a Press conference.

“However, it would be a mistake for us to set targets in such a competitive League as this. The aim is to take every weekend as it comes and for us to give the maximum so we get the best results possible.”

Angeleri believes he will have no trouble in adapting to Spanish football or new boss Schuster’s methods.

“All Argentines who have played in this competition have adapted well and gone about their work correctly, so I hope to be one more of them.

“It will take time to familiarise ourselves with the Coach’s style, more than just the friendlies we’ve played so far, as he is always looking at different things and analysing the players on the pitch. Over the course of the season he will find out what is best for us and the team.”

At the same time, the experienced 30-year-old says he will play in whatever position the German asks him to.

“I like to get the chance to be in the starting line-up and I’ll play anywhere on the pitch. I don’t care as I always try to give my all for the team, whether that is in central defence, full-back or wherever.

“If I get the opportunity to play then I’m always going to be happy and content.”

Finally, Angeleri commented on how the pre-season has shaped up so far.

“We’ve played a sufficient number of friendly games and the team has responded well, so it’s been good, and based on that we now have to face up to what is coming, which is the first match."
