Del Bosque hints at Casillas call

Vicente del Bosque has indicated that Iker Casillas will not lose his place in the Spain squad even if he doesn’t play in Real Madrid’s next competitive fixture.

Debate has returned to the goalkeeper’s position for club and country after being dropped by Carlo Ancelotti in favour of Diego Lopez for Madrid’s opening League match of the season.

However, the 32-year-old’s national team Coach has given his backing to the captain, indicating that as was the case in the Confederations Cup, Casillas will keep hold of his place with La Roja.

“We are happy with the three goalkeepers, even if they go 10 games not playing,” explained Del Bosque on Cadena Cope this week.

“Real Madrid’s next match is August 26 in Granada and we out together the list for the Finland game on August 30. I do not think we will make any changes in goal.

“We have to evaluate the situation at each moment. Iker is unique and a special man in the world of Spanish football.

“It is a very personal situation, between the club and the player.”

Spain face Finland in a World Cup qualifier on September 6 before meeting Chile in a friendly a few days later in Switzerland.
