Benzema to negotiate new deal

Karim Benzema is reportedly set to enter into talks with Real Madrid over a new contract in the coming weeks.

The Frenchman finds himself as the team’s primary striker for the 2013-14 campaign following Gonzalo Higuain’s departure to Napoli.

Whilst speculation has also linked the No 9 with a possible exit from the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, AS theorise that Madrid and the player are instead intent on extending his stay in the capital.

It is believed that first contacts between Benzema’s agent and Madrid director general Jose Angel Sanchez have already taken place, with both parties in agreement to begin official negotiations shortly.

Reportedly, September is when these will start, with it seen that an agreement will be ‘fairly easy’ to reach and that his extension could be finalised before the calendar year is out.

It is speculated that Madrid are intent on signing the France international to a new contract before the 2014-15 season begins.
