Banega happy for responsibility

Ever Banega has emphasised the importance of Valencia starting the season with a  win and enthused at his increased responsibility within the side.

The 25-year-old looks set to feature prominently under Miroslav Djukic this term and helped Los Che to a 1-0 opening weekend win over Malaga this weekend.

“The ambition was to start by winning against a team like Malaga and that was important, it was a good start,” Banega commented to Valencia’s official website today.

“They, despite the changes they have made with who has left and who has arrived, still have a very good squad and we have been able to demonstrate that we are doing things right.

“We made things difficult, but in the end we won. Perhaps we had a bit of luck, but it’s a matter of continuing to work and grabbing those breaks that we need.

“The important thing, as I have said, is to start by winning. And so we can now work in the best way.

“My role? I have to keep working and doing things right. Personally I try to help out in whatever way I can.

“A more important role is a nice responsibility and I have to assume it and I’ll approach it as such.”

The playmaker is back at full fitness after a double leg break suffered 18 months ago.

“After the injury I think I have returned stronger. I finished the season well and with a great start to this one I hope to continue.

“Perhaps the weekend wasn’t the best game nor for me personally, but not all games are the same. The important thing is to win and to pick up the points.

“The fans? We are very happy with them. They are always supporting us and singing and they help us to pressure the opponent.

“We are grateful for their support as it is always there in good and bad times.”
