Schuster promotes Samuel

Malaga boss Bernd Schuster has promoted striker Samuel to his squad after he impressed during pre-season.

The 23-year-old has been handed the No 24 shirt and has also signed a first professional contract that will keep him at La Rosaleda until 2016.

Sometimes known as Samu, the Malaga-born player came through the youth system with Los Blanquiazules and says it is a dream come true for him to represent his local team.

“I’m dreamed of playing at La Rosaleda since I was a young boy and I’m going to make the best of every opportunity,” he told the club’s official website.

“I’m determined to work as hard as I can and then it’s up to the boss to decide how many minutes I get to play.

“Signing a professional contract is a big step and I’d like to thank the Coach for the faith he has shown in me, and I hope to return the favour on the pitch.”

Samu acknowledged it was his performances in the summer friendlies that had persuaded Schuster to make him part of his squad.

“The pre-season went very well for me. I was a bit nervous at first but my teammates made it easy for me to fit in,” he revealed.
