Madrid squad unhappy at Bale wages

According to The Telegraph, the Real Madrid squad are unhappy at the money Gareth Bale is likely to earn at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The report claims Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has informed President Florentino Perez that Bale’s signing is unnecessary as he does not fit into his side, while he is believed to have also noted some dressing room unrest when it was revealed the Welshman would earn between €9m and €10m after tax.

Players such as Mesut Ozil, Angel Di Maria and Karim Benzema are reported to have made their opposition clear, while other players share their feelings and believe Los Blancos already possess a squad to fight for every honour available during the 2013-14 campaign.

Ozil’s father was in Madrid in June asking for an improved contract for his son, who currently earns around €5m-a-year, and Benzema is hoping to meet with Madrid officials soon to discuss a new deal as his agreement expires in 2015.

At the same time, Di Maria plans to remain at the club after so far refusing to move to Tottenham Hotspur as a makeweight in the attempt to bring Bale to the Spanish capital.
