La Real move on Granero

Real Sociedad want to sign Esteban Granero on loan to strengthen their midfield after the departure of Asier Illaramendi.

Despite La Real boss Jagoba Arrasate recently insisting he would not be bringing any more players to Anoeta this summer, it is believed he wants the QPR man in his squad before the Basque club’s upcoming Champions League qualifier.

Granero suffered relegation with the Londoners last term and would welcome the chance of a return to Spain following his ill-fated spell at Loftus Road, where he made 27 appearances and scored just one goal.

The 26-year-old is a product of Real Madrid’s youth academy but moved to Getafe in 2008 after a successful loan spell at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez, yet he returned to the Santiago Bernabeu 12 months later when Los Blancos exercised their buy-back option for a reported €4m.

Although Granero was never a first-team regular with Madrid, he featured in 106 games in all competitions, notching nine goals, and although he may have to lower his wage demands to sign for Getafe, the former Spanish Under-21 international may see it as a good opportunity to get his career back on track.
