Rafa Lopez optimistic over Getafe

Getafe defender Rafa Lopez believes his team are on the right path to make it a good year for the Madrid club.

Although Luis Garcia Plaza’s men have had a disappointing pre-season, having won just one and drawn four of six friendly games, the 28-year-old central defender feels it is more important to arrive at the first La Liga game against Real Sociedad in prime physical condition.

“Obviously we’d all like to win but pre-season results are not the most important thing. We have to prepare for the game in San Sebastian and make sure we are ready that day.

“The team is looking good, taking shape, and I think we are on the right road,” Rafa told a Press conference, before sending a message to the supporters.

“I’d like to tell the fans not to worry. If apart from the results we hadn’t been playing well then I’d be the first to worry.

“In Holland we could have won one more game but I think we’ll be okay for when La Liga begins.

“We need to do what we do every year and try to stay up. After that we’ll see what hopes we can entertain for the rest of the season.

“The team is more or less the same as last term and I think it will be a good year for us.”

Finally, Rafa maintained that on the opening day of the new campaign Los Azulones need to take advantage of the fact that opponents Real Sociedad will have a Champions League qualifier the following week.

“You have to try and exploit things such as that, although people don’t see it. I think for them that game is very important and they will be thinking about it,” he explained.
