Perez eyes Ronaldo renewal

Real Madrid President Florentino Perez is reportedly intending to try and negotiate terms of a contract extension with Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese star has been seen in the Spanish media in recent months as at an impasse with the club, refusing to sign a new deal and instead intending to run down his current deal, which expires in June 2015.

However, AS report that the 28-year-old has shifted his mindset somewhat, in response to Perez’s continued public assertions through the summer that he will do ‘everything possible’ to sign him to a new deal.

It is believed that Ronaldo and Perez are scheduled to meet during Madrid’s tour of the US over the next fortnight, with it believed that if everything goes to plan, the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, would only be called in to negotiate finer points in the closing stages.

The club President is reportedly prepared to make the forward one of the best paid players in the world again, boosting his net earnings from €10m a year up to €14.5m, level with Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Paris Saint-Germain and behind only Samuel Eto’o at Anzhi, who remains on €20m.

It is also understood that as part of any negotiations, Ronaldo is after an increased and continued level of support from Madrid in the media.
