‘Forlin’s sale a surprise to all’

Sergio Garcia has admitted that Espanyol’s sale of Juan Forlin ‘was a surprise to everyone’, as he praises preparations under Javier Aguirre.

The Catalans earlier this week completed the sale of vice-captain Forlin to Qatar outfit Al Rayyan SC for a fee believed to be in the region of €3.5m.

Believed in the local media as representing a ‘key part’ of Aguirre’s plans for the new season, the club’s captain has admitted the shock in the Argentine’s departure.

“Nobody expected it,” Garcia told reporters this week.

“It was a surprise to everyone. I learned of it a little sooner than everyone else, he told me just a day before it came out.

“For us he was a very important player. It is a shame, but this is the case.

“We have to strive to get things done.”

The forward, who today has been linked with Valencia if they were to sell Roberto Soldado, reflected on preparations with Espanyol for the new season based in Garos, 230km north of Barcelona.

“It has been good here. The temperatures have been pleasant and allowed us to prepare well physically.

“I believe that we are all happy with the work we have done here.

“The work done with Aguirre is different to previous preseasons. We have started more gradually and the team has found it better.

“It is clear that every Coach has his own style and own way of working.”
