Trio record wins, Valencia lose

There were wins for Real Betis, Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao, but Valencia lost their first game in Germany, as preseason got underway this weekend.

Betis have begun preparations for the new season with two games in as many days, starting their preseason fixture list with a 7-0 win away to local side Los Barrios and this was followed a day later on the Saturday with a 5-0 win at Arcos.

Friday saw Real Sociedad begin life with Jagoba Arrasate as Coach with a 12-0 stroll against Mondragon, which saw a majority of the first-team squad receive a run-out.

Athletic started their second stint under Ernesto Valverde on the Saturday with a 6-1 win at Bermeo, which saw summer signing Benat Etxebarria make an appearance and score the final goal.

Debuts from Oriol Romeu and Javi Fuego for Miroslav Djukic’s first game in charge of Valencia could not see them avoid beginning with a defeat.

Los Che kicked off the first leg of their preseason workout in Germany with a 2-1 loss at Karlsruher, felled by converted penalties early and late in the match.

Sevilla start their friendly campaign on Monday evening with a game at San Fernando, before they are due to fly out to South America on Wednesday.

Malaga and Valencia again are then due to play on Tuesday evening.
