Joao Miranda has enthused at the prospect of increased competition at Atletico Madrid next season in the form of Martin Demichelis.
Los Colchoneros completed the capture of the Argentine centre-back on a one year deal last week and, despite presenting increased competition, one of his new defensive teammates sees the value in his arrival.
“He’s a great player, it is good for the group that we have people of the quality of Demichelis,” reflected Miranda to reporters today.
“He will increase competition and the quality of our defence. It is best for everyone. The defenders will all have to be at their best to maintain their position in the team.
“Is the squad now complete? We can still sign more players. We have three major competitions and the more the merrier for the team.”
Miranda missed out on a place in Brazil’s squad this summer for the Confederations Cup, but he is still targeting the World Cup next summer and believes Atleti’s participation in the Champions League may aid his fight.
“I think it will. If our team has a good season and a good Champions League campaign, then I will have a better chance to be with Brazil and to help me get into the squad.
“But for the moment, everything is being done for the good of the team.”
