‘Madrid rest hopes on Illarra’

Florentino Perez has reflected that Real Madrid rest ‘the hopes of their football’ on new signing Asier Illarramendi.

Madrid yesterday completed the €39m purchase of the 23-year-old from Real Sociedad and today presented him to the media, where the President addressed the room.

“We continue to refine our sporting project in search of spectacular football, that our Coach Ancelotti and our fans both want,” announced Perez to reporters today.

“We have an exceptional staff, whilst we are working to enhance the model that has led us to become the biggest club in history.

“We have brought players in that are hungry, like Isco and Carvajal. Now we are taking a step in the search for talent and for football of quality.

“Illarramendi is one of the great hopes for our football. We wanted him here and he also wanted to be here.

“He has shone as one of the best in the UEFA Under-21 Championship and shared in that success with many teammates he can now find here. All are highly trained youngsters.

“Illarramendi comes from a land that loves football and that has a tradition that we respect and admire.

“I thank the President of Real Sociedad, a friend of the club, for his willingness to make this moment a reality.

“La Real have a spectacular project and it will allow them to this season be measured against the biggest teams in Europe.”
