New Atleitco Madrid defender Martin Demichelis has revealed that Diego Simeone was a major factor in his signing.
The Argentine defender's contract at Malaga ran out on June 30, and was offered a new deal at La Rosaleda as well as the option of joining River Plate.
But the veteran centre-back has admitted that the Coach persuaded him to come to the capital.
“I am proud and happy to come to this great city and this great institution,” he told a Press conference.
“After 10 years in Europe it was the first time that I felt free to return to River – the club that formed me.
“And it was also difficult to leave Malaga – a city that has given me so much love.
“It was a very complex and difficult decision, but this is a major sporting project.
“Simeone expressed to me his desire to win every game.”
