Villa: Atleti is a challenge

David Villa has reflected on the challenge of leading the line this coming season for Atletico Madrid, as he pays tribute to his new Coach.

The 31-year-old this week completed a cut-price €5.1m transfer from Barcelona to the Vicente Calderon and is set to be Atleti’s primary replacement for Radamel Falcao.

“It is a major challenge to be here. I come into a winning group that has shown as much in recent years,” reflected Villa in an interview with his new team’s official website.

“I will try to contribute what I have given to every team I have played with – work, sacrifice, dedication and a little more experience if possible.

“I’m going to try to give everything to make the club a little bigger.

“The goal is clear, the reach the final part of each competition we are in with our chances still in place.”

The striker admitted that part of the pull to the deal was Diego Simeone.

“He is a Coach like he was a player, with lots of character and an athletic courage.

“His footballing ideas speak for themselves. At the end of the day, we are here to get results.”
