Tough League start for Euro hopefuls

The full fixture list for La Liga 2013-14 has been drawn up, making for some eye-catching equations through the Spanish Primera Division next season.

Today saw the draw for the 2013-14 calendar, beginning with Week 1 and Week 38, as well as the setting of the two Clasico fixtures.

The League’s opening fixtures, for August 17 and 18, have notably paired European hopefuls Valencia and Malaga and Sevilla and Atletico Madrid in direct conflict, whilst Barcelona and Real Madrid both begin at home.

The final week of the season, set for May 17 and 18, has Barca hosting Atletico and Madrid at home to Espanyol.

The two League Clasicos for the season have been determined for Week 10 at the Camp Nou, October 26 or 27, and Week 29 at the Santiago Bernabeu, March 22 or 23. The latter fixture would fall on the weekend following the second leg of the Champions League Last 16 and 10 days prior to any possible participation for either team in the competition’s quarter-finals.

The Madrid derby has been set at the Bernabeu for Week 7, at the end of September and for Week 26 at the Vicente Calderon, at the start of March, whilst the Catalan derbies are in Week 12 at the Camp Nou and Week 31 at Cornella-El Prat.

Malaga notably begin the season with four of their first five games against Valencia, Barcelona, Sevilla and Real Sociedad.

Similarly, Sevilla face Atletico, Malaga, Barcelona and Valencia in four of their first five fixtures and it also means that Valencia Coach Miroslav Djukic begins life at Mestalla with three home games in the first five weeks against Malaga, Barcelona and Sevilla.

Weeks 6, 11 and 30 are designated midweek rounds, whilst one weekend in April will have to designate one day to the Copa del Rey Final. The season’s Supercopa de Espana will be played first leg August 21 at Atletico Madrid and second leg August 28 at Barcelona.
