Atleti wanted Soldado first

Atletico Madrid reportedly made a move for Valencia’s Roberto Soldado, before agreeing a deal for Barcelona’s David Villa.

Yesterday evening saw a €5.1m deal for Villa announced, but AS say it was only arranged after one for the 31-year-old’s international colleague could not be.

It is believed that Los Colchoneros’ Miguel Angel Gil Marin approached Valencia with an enquiry for Soldado, only to be told that he would only be sold at his €30m buyout clause.

This position determined Atleti’s decision to turn their attention to Los Che’s former striker Villa instead.
