Zubizarreta set for Barca renewal

Barcelona will reportedly renew the contracts of sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta and his close working staff.

Despite having a year remaining on his current deal, it was rumoured heading into this summer that elements of the Catalans’ board were unhappy with the retired goalkeeper’s work at the Camp Nou and wanted him out.

It was a situation further brought to light when Zubizarreta reportedly threatened his resignation unless assistants Narcis Julia and Albert Valentin were handed new contracts this summer, with the duo otherwise preparing to leave this summer.

Mundo Deportivo believe that a compromise has been reached and that all three are now set to extend their stay with La Blaugrana.

The trio have reportedly had three-year contract extensions drawn up and are expected to sign them in the coming days.

The agreements until June 2016 will provisionally take the three through to the end of Sandro Rosell’s current term as President.

However, the contracts will reportedly also hold a rescission clause that can be activated by the club in the respective next two summers of 2014 and 2015, should they so wish.
