Barcelona have confirmed that Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia, better known as Rubi, has joined Tito Vilanova’s coaching staff.
The Barcelona-born 43-year-old, who has been more than a decade coaching in the lower levels of Spain, caught the eye last season when he took Girona to the verge of promotion to the Primera Division.
On from finishing fourth and losing out to Almeria in the play-offs, Barcelona were linked with bringing him in and today they have confirmed as such.
Rubi will, according to the Catalans’ official statement, take up the role of second assistant Coach alongside Vilanona and assistant Jordi Roura.
The Coach has signed a one-year deal with an option for a second and will reportedly focus on tactics and set-pieces.
