More than two-thirds of Spain’s television audience were tuned in last night to see Jesus Navas score the winning penalty against Italy.

The winger converted La Roja’s seventh spot-kick for a 7-6 shootout win over the Azzurri in their Confederations Cup semi-final hosted in Fortaleza, Brazil.

Despite the five-hour time difference, a peak of more than 13.3m people tuned in across Spain to catch Navas’ penalty conversion, representing an audience share on television at that moment of 67.9 per cent.

During the 90 minutes, an average audience figure of 9.4m was recorded, amounting to 55 per cent of the total share, whilst this increased to 11.9m viewers for extra-time, and a 60.3 per cent share, before audience levels peaked during the penalty shootout.
