Reina expects Casillas in goal

Pepe Reina has reflected that ‘in principle’ Iker Casillas will retake the starting berth for Spain for the rest of the Confederations Cup.

Casillas, Reina and Victor Valdes have all played one game in the tournament so far this summer, each handed a start for one of La Roja’s group stage encounters.

However, for Reina, the expectancy is that Casillas will return to the goal for tonight’s semi-final with Italy.

“In principle it seems that Iker will play the remainder of the competition, but if it is so that they need me, I’ll be ready,” the Liverpool man reflected in an interview with Adidas.

“There is a great working atmosphere between us.

“The relationship between the three of us is very good and the other two will tell you the same.

“I faced my game against Tahiti with ambition, we were very comfortable. It is not normal that all three goalkeepers play in the finals of a tournament of this nature, so I am happy and very grateful to the Coach.

“In the end, each contributes their part and I have played in the second game. I’m pleased that we have won all three group games and now we are looking forward and very excited about the semi-final with Italy.

“Whenever you play Italy it is a very difficult game, but I am convinced that they will have the same respect for us, or even more so.”
