Celta pick up Charles

Celta Vigo have confirmed the signing of Segunda Division’s top scorer from last season Charles for a reported €1m fee.

The Galicians, who recently sold Iago Aspas to Liverpool, have looked to replace him with the announcement of the capture of Almeria’s main striker in their promotion campaign last term.

Brazilian Charles, who last season netted 27 League goals to finish as the Segunda Division’s top scorer, has been confirmed by Celta as having signed for them today.

The 29-year-old is Luis Enrique’s second arrival of the summer transfer market following on from Andreu Fontas and has signed a four-year contract with the team that avoided relegation on the final day of the 2012-13 Primera Division campaign.

Charles, who was only at Almeria for a single season having previously played for Cordoba, has been in Europe since moving to Portuguese side Feirense in 2001 and has been plying his trade in Spain since a 2004 transfer to Pontevedra.
