Betis present Miki Roque memorial

Yesterday saw Real Betis mark the first anniversary of Miki Roque’s death with the unveiling of a memorial at the Benito Villamarin stadium.

Betis defender Roque passed away on June 24, 2012 after losing his battle with pelvic cancer and yesterday saw Los Beticos mark his absence at their ground.

At a presentation attended by many fans, club President Miguel Guillen unveiled a tall memorial adorned with green and white images of Roque through his career and ‘Miki 26 Roque’ written in large letters in the middle.

It stands outside the Gol Norte stand of the Benito Villamarin stadium.

“Real Betis was to continue his memory in this corner of the Gol Norte at the Estadio Benito Villamarin. His stadium,” Guillen declared.

“We wanted to symbolise the memory of Miki at the base of the flagpole of Real Betis.

“Every Sunday when the flag is raised, it shall be supported by the memorial dedicated to our No 26.

“So we must always remember our player.”
