Reina hopes to ‘contribute’

Pepe Reina has revealed that he will try to help out the national team, despite not being guaranteed another Confederations Cup start.

The Liverpool shot-stopper was in the Spain starting XI for the match against Tahiti on Thursday, but is likely to be benched for the game with Nigeria on Sunday.

However, the 30-year-old has claimed he will contribute in the best possible way.

“Everyone plays for their clubs,” he told a Press conference. “But with the national team there are 23 good players and they cannot all play.

“We all want to do well on the pitch, but if we can't, then we will try to contribute.

“I am grateful to the Coach for letting me play against Tahiti.

“Now we have to finish the job off. We knew when we came here that we would play strong teams.

“If we get Italy [in the semi-finals] then we have to play like we did in the European Championship final last year.”
