Mathieu: Valencia deal set

Jeremy Mathieu has confirmed he has a new Valencia contract in hand, as his agent travels to the club today to finalise the extension.

The Frenchman, who enjoyed a productive 2012-13 that even included a positional change from left-back to centre-back, has been linked with a possible move to Barcelona this summer.

However, on from the club confirming their intention to instead extend his stay at Mestalla, the 29-year-old has also affirmed where his intentions lie.

Mathieu: “Everything is set, I have the contract in hand, it only needs the signature,” Mathieu told L’Equipe this week.

“Barca were interested, but I came in fourth or fifth on their list. I could have waited, but I had to show respect towards Valencia.”

The player’s agent is meeting with Valencia President Amadeo Salvo and sporting director Braulio Vazquez today to finalise the action.
