Etaeta wants respect for Tahiti

Tahiti head Coach Eddy Etaeta has asked that his team are shown respect, despite the unfamiliar situation they find themselves in.

The Confederations Cup’s Oceania representatives are ranked 138th in the world, lost their opening Group B match 6-1 to Nigeria and head into Thursday’s game with No 1 ranked Spain expected to be on the end of a thrashing.

Even so, at the pre-match Press conference, their Coach has called for respect for their place in the competition.

“In our team we have accountants, truck drivers, teachers, but we ask for the utmost respect,” Etaeta told reporters, before commenting on the change in environment they are all experiencing.

“It’s my first time travelling business class with the players.

“Many have never been to another continent before or know what it is to talk to the Press.

“I have told them ‘now we are living a fairy tale, but do not lose your heads, because this will end’.”
