Valencia expect Mathieu renewal

Valencia President Amadeo Salvo has admitted that the club will need to sell this summer, but that Jeremy Mathieu isn’t expected to leave.

The Frenchman has been linked on and off in recent weeks with a move to Barcelona, but Los Che have made clear that they see his future with them.

“We want to renew Mathieu. I do not think there will be any last minute problems,” Salvo told reporters this week.

“If he chooses to leave, which will not be the case, then someone will have to come in and pay the clause. Mathieu will continue for three more years.”

Reports this week have suggested that Valencia need to raise a further €18m in player sales this summer in order to balance their accounts.

“Obviously we have to sell in order balance the budget, and bring in others depending on those sales.

“We must begin to change the model. We cannot play the lottery, we have to generate unity among all.

“We may sign a player to generate enthusiasm, but we must not delude ourselves within our new model.

“The issue of transfers is very important but ambition can come from many avenues. Valencia’s fans can have ambition at the overall project.

“Valencia are not only 24 players.”
