Puyol back by preseason

Barcelona team doctor Ricard Pruna has confirmed that Carles Puyol will recover from his latest knee surgery in time for preseason.

The defender underwent a 35-minute procedure on Wednesday morning to remove a cyst in his knee that was causing discomfort.

Whilst it follows on from the player’s recovery from more substantial surgery in March, it will not delay his return in time for July 15, when those not on international duty this summer report back to the Catalans for the first day of preseason.

“The intervention has been made so that the player can perform at his highest level in future years and for as long as he intends to,” Pruna told reporters today.

“Puyol has much ambition to play at the World Cup in Brazil. He has sacrificed the remaining days of his holiday in order to be 100 per cent to start the preseason.”
