‘Malaga’s project very interesting’

Bernd Schuster has reflected on why he has taken the Malaga post and what his objectives are with the team.

The German was confirmed last week as Manuel Pellegrini’s replacement at La Rosaleda, but is expected to see the squad change significantly over the summer transfer window.

“Malaga is a very interesting project for me,” explained Schuster at his presentation today.

“Begins now a new stage, with great enthusiasm. It is what we are going to translate through to everyone.

“I arrive with lots of energy and we will put in whatever it takes. I thank Malaga for the trust put in me and my coaching staff. I’m sure we will do a great job, with great enthusiasm.

“A lot of work ahead of me? We’ve come a fair way already. We have fixed the beginning of preseason, we have made much progress.

“Comparisons with last year will not be exclusive to Malaga. Such comparisons are very normal. What has been experienced here last year I will not take away from.

“But I am looking ahead, I am confident that the team will give their all. We will face opponents face to face, that will be the mentality.

“We have to understand that the path will be different. We have to do more work, with great force and make this team great once more.

“I like to send my teams into the field to compete with whoever they face, home or away. There is a great advantage and that is regarding Manuel Pellegrini, as we are not far from each other in footballing philosophy.

“There are just little details that are different between us.”
