Pedro: We wanted to start well

Pedro Rodriguez was left content with Spain’s opening win against Uruguay, and eased concern over an injury.

The striker opened the scoring in Sunday evening’s eventual 2-1 win over the Copa America holders, to help begin La Roja’s Confederations Cup campaign with a win.

“We are happy, we wanted to start well, winning the first game and so it has proven. In the first half we had a lot of possession and we played very well.”

The striker caused concern in the closing stages when he was forced off with an injury, but he has assured that it is nothing serious.

“It was knock at the end and I preferred not to force it.”
