Joel: Future at Atleti is clear…

Joel Robles has conceded that he expects to leave Atletico Madrid this summer, as he pays tribute to Spain Under-21 teammate David de Gea.

Joel, who spent last season on loan at Wigan Athletic, confirmed that speculation linking him with an exit from the Vicente Calderon this summer is likely not far off.

“My future at Atletico is clear. I have half a foot out,” the 23-year-old commented to reporters today.

“It is obvious and circumstances are what they are, but the summer is still to come and we will see what happens.”

The goalkeeper was talking ahead of Spain’s preparations for tomorrow’s UEFA Under-21 Championship Final against Italy.

“It is an extraordinary motivation to be in the final of the European Championship. We are eager to play the final. Italy are strong, it will be difficult for sure.”

Joel’s place is on the bench for the final, due to David de Gea’s position as first choice. De Gea’s appearance on Tuesday will see him equally Santiago Denia’s appearance record at this level of 27 caps.

“We are aware that David is a great ‘keeper, he has been playing for many years in the national team.

“He is a great teammate and a great friend. And now he is goalkeeper at Manchester United, he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world.”
