‘Spain U-21s XI will be competitive’

Julen Lopetegui has promised a competitive Spain Under-21 side will play the Netherlands on Wednesday evening.

La Rojita and their Dutch opponents are both already assured of passage from Group B into the semi-finals, with tonight’s game only set to determine which side faces Group A winners Italy and runners-up Norway.

“The game against the Netherlands will be valuable, we will be up against a great rival and we want to compete and try to win. Without a doubt,” Lopetegui promised reporters in his pre-match delivery.

“From there we will draw a competitive XI, maybe with some new players in some positions, but the idea is of the XI that start, that they are prepared to compete to the fullest.

“We will fight for the three points against the Netherlands.

“I am delighted with the work of the group we have brought to Israel.

“How they are competing, how they are living together, and when I say compete, I mean everyone, how they are taking to the games, in each situation that is presented to them.

“And that is the basis of success of any group, and in that regard we are totally happy and want to keep it that way.”
