Zidane prefers assistant role

Whilst apparently not qualified to take the head Coach role, Zinedine Zidane is reportedly keen to step in as assistant Coach this summer at Real Madrid.

The Frenchman has been confirmed by club President Florentino Perez as taking up a more influential role at the club from this summer, with it suggested under the title of sporting director.

However, Cadena SER suggest that reports of Perez considering Zidane as assistant Coach to first choice Coach Carlo Ancelotti have turned the former midfielder’s head.

It is reported that he is more enthusiastic to step in as Ancelotti’s assistant on the bench next term, rather than take a desk job at the club.

Zidane has also apparently spoken with Ancelotti, who is still trying to get out of his Paris Saint-Germain contract, about acting as his assistant next season.

Part of Zidane’s understood reluctance to be sporting director at Madrid is the greater exposure he would have to the media.
