Sevilla chase Spartak defender

Sevilla are hoping to strike a deal for Spartak Moscow defender Nico Pareja, according to Russian newspaper Izvestia.

The former Espanyol centre-back [pictured, left], capped once by Argentina during Diego Maradona’s tenure, has fallen out of favour since current Sevilla boss Unai Emery lost his job at the Luzhniki Stadium last November.

Now, however, he could be set to link up with Emery once more, having already been a target for the Andalusians before he joined Spartak in August 2010 when negotiations for the 29-year-old broke down.

Pareja began his career with Argentinos Juniors and signed for Anderlecht for €2m in 2006 before heading to Espanyol two years later.

Although the Russians may prefer a straight cash deal, it is probable that Sevilla will at first try to push for an initial loan agreement with an option to buy.
