Rayo confirm Leo to Atletico

Rayo Vallecano have confirmed that striker Leo Baptistao has left the club to sign for Atletico Madrid this summer.

It was widely believed that by the turn of the year the two Madrid sides had agreed a transfer at the end of the season for the young Brazilian, who has impressed this term at Vallecas.

With the campaign now ended, Rayo have confirmed via their official website that 20-year-old has moved across to the Vicente Calderon.

“Rayo Vallecano and Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement for the transfer of Leonardo Carrilho Baptistao,” explained Rayo’s statement published today.

“The Brazilian striker, 20, is committed to a five-year contract with Atletico.

“Leo Baptistao has played 28 games this season, 26 of them starts, scoring seven goals and contributing decisively to the great campaign by Rayo Vallecano.

“From the club, thank you to Leo Baptistao for your professionalism and dedication shown over the years in defending the Rayo shirt.

“We wish him all the best of luck, personally and professionally, in this new stage.”

No fee is specified, but it was understood earlier in the season that Atleti and Rayo’s agreement was set at €5.9m.
