Vicente Del Bosque has dismissed a return to Real Madrid following comments made by club President Florentino Perez.
Perez had said the Spain boss would ‘have a home at Real Madrid’ when he leaves his current job, remarks Del Bosque was quick to reply to.
“I don’t intend working for Real Madrid again or any other club. I appreciate what he said but I’m fully focused on the national side,” he told Eurosport.
The 62-year-old was also asked about Zinedine Zidane’s more hands-on role as Perez’s new right-hand man and Iker Casillas’ difficult time at the club this season.
“It’s not my place to comment on club decisions. I can only say I know Zizou well and am very fond of him.
“It’s been painful to see what Iker has been through. I put myself in his shoes and think he must have thought: Why is this happening to me?
“His record stands up against anyone’s. I’ve stood by him because he is a major asset to the national team but I’ve never meddled in the Real Madrid Coach’s decisions.”
