‘Coach must know Madrid’s values’

Alvaro Morata has reflected on the managerial change this summer at Real Madrid and on his hopes with Spain’s Under-21s.

The young striker is set for a new Coach at the Santiago Bernabeu when he returns from international duty at the European Under-21 Championships, with Madrid pushing to replace Jose Mourinho with Carlo Ancelotti.

“I hope that whoever comes in knows the club and knows the values that Real Madrid represents,” mused Morata to reporters today on the situation.

“I am very grateful to Mourinho for giving me an opportunity and I wish him luck. I believe he would have liked to have left the club happier, though.

“We should not compare him to Ancelotti. Everyone has their methods and they are two different Coaches.

“My future? That’s not up to me. For now I am focused on the European Championships and then we will see what happens.

“I do not feel disappointed by this season, although it is true that our objectives have not been achieved.

“But it has allowed me to experience many things that I had not had the opportunity to do.”

Morata turned his attention to his international duty this summer with the Under-21s.

“We are psyched, we are taking a great team out there and we can achieve something important.

“I was the last to arrive, but I really want to win like everyone else and everyone’s contribution in a setting like this can be important.

“We have no fear of any rival, the first thing is to beat [opening opponents] Russia. If we think about who comes after then we might not progress.”
