Griezmann doesn’t fear Madrid

Antoine Griezmann has declared that Real Sociedad will remain unfazed by both facing Real Madrid and the news that Coach Philippe Montanier is leaving.

La Real head into this Sunday evening’s clash at home to Madrid leading Valencia on the head-to-head rule for a place in next year’s Champions League.

Sitting fourth in the table, two wins from the team’s last two games will confirm their spot in the preliminary rounds of next year’s premiere competition.

For their young attacking Frenchman, the anticipation in welcoming Los Blancos provides extra motivation for Week 37.

“We are in Anoeta, the fans will be crazy and so will we in the field,” Griezmann has enthused this week.

“Madrid are to be respected. All their players, like Cristiano and Benzema, can score their goals, they will want to win and score at Anoeta.

“But, we do not fear them. We shall stay as the same team as always. We will want to win and will go for the three points.

“We are not focused on them, but on ourselves.”

Preparations have been hit this week with confirmation that Coach Montanier has turned down a new contract in favour of leaving in the summer to join Rennes.

“We are fine. There are many jokes in the dressing room and everyone is happy for the season we are having.

“We now have two finals and we want to take three points from each to be sure of playing in the Champions League.

“We never get nervous. We have always stayed calm and that has helped us to play well in the field.

“We let nothing affect our mentality, that is why things have gone well for us.”
