Mundo Deportivo have revealed that the capital club tabled a bid for the Spain international, but the 31-year-old rejected the move.
Diego Simeone's side were keen on replacing Radamel Falcao with the former Valencia man, but those plans have been put to one side now.
Villa is set to leave Camp Nou this summer, with Arsenal and Tottenham the favourites for his signature.
