Ozil’s father starts Madrid talks

Mesut Ozil’s father is reportedly in the Spanish capital this week beginning negotiations with Real Madrid over a new contract for the footballer.

The No 10, who currently earns €5m a year on a deal running through until June 2016, was reportedly the subject of talks on Wednesday between Madrid and his father, who also acts as his agent.

Ozil recently dropped his previous representation in favour of having his father look after his interests and it has been since that change that reports have run that the 24-year-old playmaker is after improved terms.

However, it is also understood that talks were only officially opened this week once confirmation of Jose Mourinho’s departure in the summer came through, in light of the player’s inconsistent season under the Portuguese.
