Van Nistelrooy backs Pellegrini

Ruud van Nistelrooy has backed his former Real Madrid and Malaga Coach Manuel Pellegrini to make a positive impact at Manchester City, if he moves there.

The Chilean is widely speculated in both Spain and England as set for talks with City to replace yesterday’s sacked manager Roberto Mancini.

It is a move that Van Nistelrooy, who worked with Pellegrini in a single season at Madrid before reuniting with him at La Rosaleda last season, sees as wise.

“Pellegrini is one of the best Coaches I worked under,” the 36-year-old former Manchester United striker told The Sun this week.

“He’s a big strategist but nothing like Mancini.

“He’s always in conversation with his squad, offering plenty of chances to young players.

“That characterises his quality work and he'll be good value in the Premier League.”
