Simeone: A leisurely defeat

Diego Simeone lamented Atletico Madrid’s defeat against Barcelona having taken the lead on Sunday night.

A Radamel Falcao goal opened the scoring against the newly crowned League champions, before Alexis Sanchez and a Gabi Fernandez own goal settled things in Barca’s favour.

“It was a game with a leisurely feel. We tried to have much more possession than we did attacks,” commented Simeone afterwards.

“Until the goal I think the team did well. We handled it well. After the goal they had two chances we couldn’t deal with. I’m angry because they won.

“The own goal? These things happen. Gabi is our captain and is having a wonderful season. Let’s see if on Friday he scores a goal at the other end.

“The fans are wonderful. The stadium was filled and colourful, but what counts is what we do on the field.

“The game in itself motivates. We will focus now on a special game.”
