Del Bosque: 2014 exit uncertain

Vicente del Bosque has given the Spanish Football Federation hope by declaring that his exit as Spain Coach in 2014 is not that certain.

The 62-year-old indicated in an interview in late April that his intention was to leave La Roja at the end of his current contract, which runs until the end of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

However, in talking to reporters today, the World Cup and European Championship winner has somewhat reneged on that stance, to give hope to an RFEF that were reported last month as keen to negotiate a new deal with the tactician.

“It is not certain that I will leave after the 2014 World Cup in Brazil,” Del Bosque told a Press conference in Cairo today.

“If we get to 2014, to the World Cup, we intend to defend the title we won in South Africa and from there, in June or July 2014, we will talk.”

Spain’s next challenge is the Confederations Cup this summer, also in Brazil. Del Bosque commented that conditioning the players after a long season may be the toughest aspect.

“We will be picking from players who have had a very tough season. Let’s see how they are and we will have to get them into the best possible shape to start training.”

Del Bosque, who once more commented that Iker Casillas is likely to be selected this summer out of respect for his status in the squad, turned his eye to the domestic League as it reaches its finale.

“Despite Barca nad Madrid dominating, there has been another team that has had a great season, Atletico Madrid.

“There were also other clubs in Europe who have represented us very well, as in the case of Malaga and the work of Real Sociedad. They have had a great season.

“But, the big economic difference that there is with Madrid and Barcelona and the rest has been reflected on the pitch, inevitably.”
