‘Espanyol not focused on Barca’

Sergio Garcia has affirmed that Espanyol want to beat Real Madrid this weekend for their own season, not to decide rivals Barcelona’s title.

Barca will be crowned League champions on Saturday night if their Catalan neighbours can prevent Madrid from winning at Cornella-El Prat.

However, Los Pericos’ forward is adamant that focus for his side is not on La Blaugrana.

“We have our own situation. We want to win against Madrid and from there everything else is by itself,” commented Garcia this week.

“We want to vindicate the good year that we are having, this second half to the season has gone great and, despite recent results, we want a victory for our fans.

“Madrid will find it hard in the title race because there are very few games left and the gap they have to Barcelona is many points, but until the last moment they will fight for the championship.

“They will bring everything, they are not coming to Cornella-El Prat to walk.”

The striker then commented on Madrid’s off-field issues.

“Perhaps the environment is not its best, but whilst they may come to us not as good as before. Given against Valladolid they did not play a great game, they only won by the one goal.

“I do not know exactly the treatment that Casillas has received, but in some ways I think that I would have shown more respect for him.”
