Alonso: No distractions please

Xabi Alonso believes that Real Madrid cannot focus on the alleged fall-out between Jose Mourinho and Iker Casillas, with the Copa del Rey Final to look to.

Madrid have seen attention continue to grow in the last week on Casillas’ continued absence from the starting XI, in light of Pepe and Mourinho’s comments on the situation.

“Iker has played here for many years. Now he is on the bench and has an impeccable attitude, he is a great professional,” Alonso commented after yesterday’s 6-2 win for Los Merengues at home to Malaga.

“From his position, he has supported in an exemplary manner.

“It is not worth commenting on these things, it is creating unnecessary controversy and I do not want us to be distracted, we have the Cup final.

“The clear objective is the final. There is no alternative other than to win a title and that is what we have left.

“We have to face it seriously, no matter what is being said.”

Speculation is also that Alonso may be leaving in the summer, having not yet signed an extension to his contract that expires in June 2014.

“Will I continue here next season? Of course I will.”
